Steve McNair (February 14, 1973 – July 4, 2009)
I was saddened to hear to the recent homicide of Steve McNair. Although he was highly regarded as arguably one of the best quarterbacks of all time, my gloom rests primarily with his wife and four children. The measure of a man is not how many yards he can attain during the span of a college and professional football career, but rather what he contributes to the world during his brief stay.
As we continue to search the internet for updates on the specifics surrounding the homicide, we should careful not to get caught up judging, speculating, and pontificating on the circumstances surrounding Steve’s death. The fact remains that we have lost another brother to a senseless act of violence.
Within two short weeks the world lost two great African-American men – both of whom died by means other than old age. In the words of the late Marvin Gaye: It Makes Me Wanna Holler and throw up both my hands. Ironically, Marvin was also taken from us violently premature.
Although I didn’t know Steve personally, we both shared a love for Omega. In honor of our fallen brother, I share with you a hymn entitled Omega Dear:
Omega Dear, we are thy own
Thou Art our Life, our Love, our Home,
We’ll Sing Thy praises far and nigh
We love Omega Psi Phi.
To all thy precepts make us true;
Live Nobly as all real men do;
Let manhood be our eternal shrine;
With faith in God and Heart and Mind.
Through days of joy or years of pain;
To Serve thee ‘er will be our aim;
And when we say our last goodbye;
We’ll love Omega Psi Phi.
Until next time,

A tragedy indeed, we extend our prayers to the McNair family. Air McNair’s achievements as a man far exceed the circumstances of his death. A leader, a warrior, a hero and much more – R.I.P to my most favorite football player of all time, Steve McNair

I didn’t see Doug Williams or Randall Cunningham play in college, but I saw McNair, and we he “made” it, I felt like I played a role in success. That’s the way I choose to remember him

This sad event should serve as an “eye-opener” for those of us who have not taken infidelity serious. Steve forfeited his life to send a message.
